Hump & Long Nose Rhinoplasty

Case study of a 20-year-old female patient who underwent rhinoplasty to correct a wide bridge, a drooping tip, and a dorsal hump.

Hump & Long Nose Rhinoplasty

* Basic Information

  • Female in her 20s
  • Wide and low nasal bridge from the front
  • Long, drooping nasal tip
  • Unevenness caused by a dorsal hump

* Consultation

1. The patient wanted to improve her flat and wide facial appearance caused by a wide and low nasal bridge.

2. She was stressed by the fact that her long, drooping nasal tip made her look older than her actual age.

3. We planned to create a shorter nasal tip compared to her current state, while ensuring it did not look overly upturned.

* Surgical Plan

1. Bridge Rhinoplasty

  • Dorsal hump correction
  • Width reduction via osteotomy
  • Silicone implant

2. Tip Plasty

  • Septal cartilage: Septal extension graft & columellar strut
  • Ear cartilage: Onlay graft

* Post-operative Progress

1. In the post-operative results, a natural yet defined nasal tip was achieved without excessive nostril exposure, exactly as requested.

2. Before surgery, the drooping tip made the columella appear retracted. By using the septum to bring out the columella, the nasolabial angle was improved, creating a more sophisticated and beautiful line from the nose to the philtrum.

3. As the wide bridge became narrower and higher, focus was drawn to the center of the face. This added dimension to her previously flat appearance, creating the effect of a smaller face, which the patient was very satisfied with.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you operate on a wide, low nasal bridge and a hooked nose?

The hooked nose is corrected, the width of the nose is reduced with osteotomy, and then a silicone implant is inserted. This can improve a bumpy and wide nasal bridge into a smooth and立体 one, and you can expect the effect of a smaller face as the gaze is concentrated in the center.

What cartilage is used to raise a long, droopy nasal tip?

Septal cartilage and ear cartilage are mainly used. Septal cartilage is used for extension grafting and to pull out the columella, and ear cartilage is overlapped to create a natural and prominent nasal tip without excessively showing the nostrils.

What is the solution when the nasal tip is droopy and the columella appears recessed?

It can be solved by using septal cartilage to pull the columella downwards. When the columella is pulled out through surgery, the nasolabial angle between the nose and the philtrum is restored, and the line connecting the nose to the philtrum is improved to be much more sophisticated and beautiful.

What are the possible side effects after nose surgery?

Complications and side effects such as bleeding, inflammation, infection, and asymmetry may occur after surgery. The extent of these side effects may vary depending on the individual's constitution or condition, so special attention is required before and after surgery, and sufficient consultation with a specialist is necessary.
