Refined Straight-Semi-Curved Nose via Bulbous Nose Correction and Nasolabial Angle Improvement (feat. Protruding Mouth Correction Effect) - Dr. Young-moon Yoo, VIBE Plastic Surgery (Sinnonhyeon Station)
A case study on achieving a sophisticated straight-semi-curved nose through bulbous nose correction and nasolabial angle adjustment, resulting in a natural yet defined profile.

Hello.
I am Dr. Young-moon Yoo, Director of VIBE Plastic Surgery.
The nose is located at the center of the face, and even small changes can significantly alter the overall impression.
In particular, a bulbous nose and a low nasolabial angle are among the primary reasons why a face can look dull or congested, and why the mouth may appear more protruded.
The patient in this case was also concerned about an unsophisticated look caused by a rounded, spreading bulbous nose tip and a somewhat lacking nasolabial angle.
She desired a natural yet clear transformation rather than an excessively high or artificial-looking nose.
Pre-operative Concerns
✔ Spreading bulbous nose
✔ Lack of three-dimensional volume at the nasal tip
✔ Congested-looking nasolabial angle
✔ Nose appearing wide from the front
✔ Lack of a sophisticated and feminine image
✔ The mouth appearing more protruded
In the case of a bulbous nose, simply raising the tip is not the solution.
A more refined result can be achieved by creating a structure that can stably support the nasal tip and redesigning the shape by appropriately trimming soft tissue and cartilage.
Surgical Plan
In this surgery, we simultaneously considered the structural stability and the natural line of the nose.
1. Forming a strong support with donated rib cartilage + septal cartilage
For patients with a bulbous nose, it is more important to build a sturdy pillar before raising the tip. We created a support to stably hold the nasal tip using donated rib cartilage and septal cartilage.
Through this process, we:
Minimized the phenomenon of the nasal tip drooping over time,
Maintained the desired nasolabial angle, and
Enabled a more precise nasal tip design.
2. Bulbous Nose Correction
The biggest cause of a bulbous nose is the widely spread structure of the nasal tip.
Rather than just increasing height, we:
Trimmed the nasal tip cartilage,
Reduced the width of the nasal tip, and
Corrected the tissue that appeared unnecessarily spread out,
Creating a slimmer and more organized nose shape from the front.
Looking at the post-operative photos, one of the biggest changes is the frontal impression. While the nasal tip previously looked wide and round, you can see it has transformed into a more sophisticated and three-dimensional feel after surgery.
3. Natural finish using ear cartilage
Recently, many people feel burdened by making the nasal tip excessively sharp. For women especially, a moderately high yet soft nasal tip creates a much more natural and high-end impression.
In this surgery, we finished the nasal tip softly using ear cartilage.
Thanks to this:
There is no artificial sharp feeling,
The natural curves are preserved, and
The design ensures a soft touch is maintained over time.

Post-operative Changes
① Bulbous Nose Improvement
As the width of the nasal tip seen from the front decreased, the entire face looks much more organized. As the nose becomes slimmer, it naturally creates the effect of making the face look smaller.
② Nasolabial Angle Improvement
As the nasolabial angle—the angle between the nose and the lips—was appropriately improved, the previously congested impression changed to a much softer and more feminine one. The nasolabial angle is an element that greatly affects not just the side profile but the overall image.
③ Completion of a Sophisticated ‘Straight-Semi-Curved’ Line
We completed a straight-semi-curved nose that harmonizes a moderate straight line with a soft curve at the tip, rather than an excessively straight or upturned nose. This is one of the most preferred nose shapes recently, as it looks natural and photographs well.
④ Three-dimensional Face
As the nose formed appropriate height and volume at the center of the face, the overall features became more distinct. Although the eyes and mouth did not specifically change, this is why the entire face looks much more sophisticated and even the protruding mouth appears improved.
VIBE Plastic Surgery’s Rhinoplasty Points
Rhinoplasty is not simply a surgery to increase height. Because every patient has different:
Skin thickness,
Nasal tip cartilage strength,
Septum condition,
Facial proportions, and
Desired image,
A customized design is necessary. At VIBE Plastic Surgery, we aim for a nose that harmonizes with the entire face rather than just a high nose. For this patient, we focused on bulbous nose correction and nasolabial angle improvement to complete a ‘naturally glamorous’ straight-semi-curved nose that anyone can appreciate without it looking artificial.
Recommended for those who:
Have a nose that looks dull due to a bulbous tip
Have a nose that looks wide from the front
Have a congested-looking nasolabial angle
Want a natural straight-semi-curved nose
Want both glamour and naturalness at the same time
Bulbous nose correction is not just a surgery to raise the tip, but a process of changing the entire facial impression. If you want to find the nose line that suits you best, it is important to establish an accurate diagnosis and surgical plan through thorough consultation.
